  1. I think the essay is spot on about Rome but misses some important points about modern economics. Modern central banks are not inflationary but seek to balance inflation with another problem, shrinking the economy. It is difficult to do because there a couple of years of tail on your actions and seeing the future is hard. However, the creation of money through billions of loans to the politically connected is a system that must find an alternative.
