Competitive programming is well suited to LLMs. Creating agent programmers that do the 'whole job' of a programmer will be very difficult and very expensive.

They are not saying that. They are saying they invented a tractor for programming. When the tractor for farming came 99% of farmers were unemployed and left for the cities - the subject of every Charles Dickens novel. 1% of people are still farmers today - they survived just fine - just in lower numbers.

There will be millions of AI jobs. But with 5 billion needing employment there should be a job for every 1000th person.

Ozone is toxic if inhaled. Sam Altman is toxic even if not inhaled. I get it now.

Got me too.

Come on - we know that the Soviets never made jokes.
2
Ask Mark how programmers he has laid off in the last few years.
2
Exactly the same thing was said. But humans can only utilize two tools - brawn and brain. The combine replaced the brawn and the AI will soon replace the brain.

I am not a developer. But with o1 at my side I am no longer afraid of dependency injection.
2
It will end when they put you in the goo tank - like in the Matrix.
2
But what about 10 years from now?
1
You should have gone. Prompting is hotter that C++ right now.

If life's meaning was working as a programmer to make money - it already had no meaning. Meaning other than money can be found everywhere if you know how to look for it.

There was the lady doing $1m+ dev contracts in SF. I worked out they were basically at 30x. You better pick up your game.
1
OpenAI blocks that.
1
That is what they are saying - o1 is a great coder. o5 will be a great software engineer.

"Also can R1 be run locally without the data being leaked?" Yes, you can run it locally but you need a $40 000 server to fit the full size model. It is not like anyone has ever caught AWS stealing their data.
1
This one will be a bigger wave. Like the one in Interstellar.

Buckle your seatbelt Dorothy. Cus Kansas is going bye-bye. -Cypher

Elon owns 50% of the World economy. Shareholders own 49%. The last 1% get shared amongst the rest of you. You will get unlimited food and Netflix though.
1
True - but the competition in that space will increase as well.
1
You are right. But currently OpenAI just trains off of GitHub data. The underlying model will improve fast when they hire 1000 experienced programmers to generate much better data.
1
Welcome to the club.
1
You are correct - the price of manufactured things will come done - 100x cheaper. But the cost of a small piece of land or an education taught by humans will go way up - 100x.
1
Same thing that happened to Stalingrad 82 years ago.
1
That is O2 - the LLM would have been o2. OpenAI are lying, as they are wont to do.
1
If you are using agents for a corporation it will be easier to go full agent rather than 10% agent. You will still need 'agent engineers' and 'agent managers' but they work outside the day-to-day workflow of the company.
1
It happens in other industries. In insurance, people change their broker so seldom that the average age in my country was near 60.

"… Don't stop thinking about tomorrow Don't stop, it'll soon be here It'll be better than before Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone"

How much it can 'ingest' is currently quite limited. When Bill Gates wrote DOS v1 it could run on 16kb. I think you know how this is going end.
