  1. It was a group decision made among the male members. Male humans tend to take a lot of pride in risk-taking. They even put female humans down for not doing it nearly as much. Maybe it's only a coincidence that they went in direct opposition to her instructions, but it may have more to do with the way boys get spiteful when they are told what to do by a woman. And one of them paid the ultimate price.

  2. Someone around the area who knew those boys went to that cave a lot could fairly easily wait for the opportunity to take them or to tip off an Associate who takes kids. Equipment can be disposed of. Awfully convenient to have everyone looking at a cave instead of looking for a child stealer.
