The saying " last in and first out " I thought that would be the typical order of things. However, a few years ago my current work place handed out redundancy and it was the long term staff and it surprised me.

@juliantheapostate8295 yes... maybe one of many reasons. However, those departments have been disposed off, and using contractors for certain things. So, reductions in staffing. I was surprised because of the redundancy payout. In Britain, employment law that is statutory is age 45 plus is a week and half a week pay for each year they've been employed, plus 28 days annual leave (holiday pay). They can't advertise those vacancies for two years either if they've given redundancy. Yes, they are cost cutting. Thanks.
