  1. The reasons that the mission could be done with computers which are small and sllw by today's standards are: 1. The Apollo computers had support from ground based computers, which would do complex calculations. 2. The motion of the Moon is regular, and the motion of a spacecraft in the gravitational field of the Earth and Moon is predictable. It isn't that hard a problem. The computers we use today are doing a lot of things that require lots of memory and processing power (like video) that aren't necessary to controlling a Moon landing.
