  1. Yes. Mearsheimer is a Realist. He is an explainer, not an advocate or apologist. TLDR are advocates, however, though they pretend to be objective. They do not understand realist analysis.

  2. Phrasing it that way makes it seem like the “blame” is on one side or the other, which is wrong. Clearly, however, the policies of the west led, inevitably, to war. And our policies today are to fuel the war rather than to help end it. The primary policy error was to expand NATO. Ukraine should never be in NATO and merely considering it is provocative. I think it was a mistake to admit the Baltic States to NATO, but they are not as important a factor as Ukraine. And don’t forget Georgia.
