I like this piece. I am not a scientist but I am scientifically trained. I used to follow developments in physics, but I started to lose interest after we lost Feynman, someone who I thought was the very model of the scientific thinker. Nowadays it seems to me that science often gets mixed up with science fiction, not that science fiction isn’t based in science but that it doesn’t have the limitations imposed on it by proper application of scientific method.
These are topics I do not want to hear about from physicists as applied to the nature of the universe: holograms, multiverses, simulation, wormholes, and, especially, visits from extraterrestrial beings, at least until there are observable phenomena which require such hypotheses to be understood. The object is always to try to understand how things work.
