  1. I don’t see Alexander as “Great,” based as it is solely on conquering vast regions and their people. His whole life seems to have been devoted to that endeavor, much like Charles XII of Sweden. Compare that to Peter the Great, who fought wars mainly to defend Russia, and devoted most of his efforts to modernizing Russia and building things. Suppose Alexander had been a builder first, and concentrated his efforts on unifying and building Greek and Macedonian (and related peoples) civilization around the Agean Sea.
