  1. Especially interesting to me because I visited Lisbon a few months ago and heard some of this from a guide. Lisbon is now one of the most charming cities in the world, although with few structures predating the earthquake. A notable feature of Lisbon is the Portuguese pavement (mosaic patterns in the cobblestone) everywhere. I am not sure if this started with the rebuilding of Lisbon. Perhaps it is worth an episode of its own.
