Just getting Trumpers to sit out the election is a good thing.

I want to hear that Cannon is removed from the case.

@Kimberly-dt4ko — The Senate is supposed to be the enforcer of standards for federal judges. There was a time when they took that responsibility seriously.

If he doesn’t resign, he should be expelled.
64
In my opinion, they shouldn’t retry it. They have one conviction, which means he will be fired. I think it’s sad when someone ends his career for such a foolish reason. His duty was to protect the Capitol and he put politics ahead of that. I don’t feel any glee for getting a conviction in this case, even though deserved to be convicted.
63
I’m old enough to remember some dignified Republicans. Seems like a long time ago.
56
Two or three eggs short. Demagogues thrive on cheering crowds. Without them, he is lost.
55
It’s still a mystery to me how anyone who was trained as an attorney gets himself into such a pickle. My experience is that attorneys tend not to be reckless.
51
His record of failed lawsuits will never be broken.
46
Were any individuals held to account for it?
44
Yes, there is nothing conservative about fascism. This is the most radical political movement since the secessionists.
27
Who would work for Trump?
26
Yes, she is 2nd in line. The President is not in line.
24
Some charges were misdemeanors. She has been convicted of four felonies.
22
George Will publicly left the Republican Party years ago because of Trump. You are not the first.
22
They may be people who just wanted to see in person whether it was as bad as they have heard.
22
Prisoners do have a right to speak. They can send mail or give statements to their attorney to release. Reporters can interview people who are jailed, if they consent to it and it is arranged through BoP.
21
Federal judges are supposed to be independent because they are appointed for life. If a judge appears to be biased there is a procedure for having her removed from the case.
20
Actually, the President is not supposed to represent you, individually. He represents the people of the United States, collectively.
19
The Speaker of the House should be a bipartisan position, supported by moderates on both sides. The problem is, moderates aren’t a majority anymore. This isn’t an endorsement of McCarthe — he’s no moderate, just slightly less extreme than the extreme wing of his party.
19
His world record for most losses in court may never be surpassed.
19
Harris did not choose the word "dominate." She was quoting news headlines.
18
The role Justice Thomas so far is just administrative and routine. The Court decides substantive questions.
17
I agree with Christie here, but I remember he seemed to be in Trump’s camp when Trump was the nominee, then President. Before that, he was against him.
17
It is difficult to remove a federal judge. It used to be routine to remove corrupt federal judges, but when we have Republican senators who refuse to convict an impeached Republican for any offense, there is no alternate procedure. The founders did not contemplate large numbers of corrupt senators.

comical
16
Old news. I don’t want to hear how many times he has threatened people. I want to hear how many days in jail he has served for contempt of court.
14
Generally, anyone who claims to have “the truth” does not.
13
The fact that a majority of the US Senate found that he incited the Jan 6th assault on Congress is sufficient authority, in my opinion.
12
Democracy is a principle, not a form of government. I like the way you put it: “Democracy operates within a republic.” It also operates within a constitutional monarchy. “Democracy” means that the people have political power, which can be expressed in various ways.
12
The 2nd impeachment was their best chance. The 1st was a long shot.
11
Any citizen may petition the Supreme Court. Even noncitizens may petition the Supreme Court. The Court does not have to accept the petition and most petitions are denied without a hearing.
11
Thomas had no discretion. Justices do not decide anything unilaterally.
10
Chesebro is a lawyer himself and was once thought to be a smart one. I don’t think courts will cut him any slack there.
10
I disagree. Many federal judges would do what he is doing. Recall that the federal judiciary was the main obstacle to Trump’s attempts to overturn the election result.
9
This is exactly what I expected. It exposes the cluelessness of all the people who have been saying that the right-wingers on the Court would just roll over for Trump. Such people don’t pay attention and try to understand how things actually work.
9
Not necessarily, as it applies to official documents. For example, the Associated Press has long had a Style Guide which specifies how certain things are to be written. Clearly, she cannot tell people what they can’t say in casusl conversation, but her order applies to official business.
9
She is a federal judge.
9
There is no practical course of action on that count. It is better to stick with charges that have a hope of succeeding.
9
It is the Supreme Court which has gone too far.
8
We don’t know the position of Justice Thomas on the question.
8
The inauguration is in January.
8
She just knows that she’s being taken off the case.
8
Nov. 20 is not quickly.
7
No, we don’t need term limits. On the whole, experienced judges work out better. Term limits do not produce better judges or better elected officials.
7
The Presidential Oath does not contain the word “support,” whereas the 14th Amendment does, so he is playing word games here.
7
Without Bernie Sanders, she would have.
7
If they are on the same team, why would that be a conflict of interest?
7
He should be jailed for contempt of court, but I’ll believe that will happen when I see it.
6
The Hatch Act does not apply to members of Congress.
