  1. Spawny500 — Every member of the EU has surrendered some sovereignty in that EU laws take precdence over national laws, and there is an international court to resolve disputes. The United States of America is a sovereign nation. We make treaties, but we never surrender our sovereignty. For example, we are a member of the North American Free Trade Agreement. If we decided to get out, we would just give six months’ notice as required by the treaty, do whatever we needed to do to prepare for the change, then in six months we would be out. There would be no asking for a “deal” and Congress would not be asking for a “deal.” That is because NAFTA is not a superior political body, it is just a treaty among sovereign states.

  4. Freedom 4all — Acts of the Commons are not law until there is concurrence from the Lords and Royal Assent. The problem is, the latter are generally pro forma, so the Commons has become accustomed to thinking of themselves as sovereign.
