  2. Cohen was independent. He blamed both Democrats and Republicans for turning away from detente toward confrontation. It wasn’t only Cohen who was ignored. All the Realists from Kennan on have been out of favor for the past thirty years.

  3. The realist position, represented here by Cohen, is that Ukraine is not important to the west. I agree. Ukraine should never be admitted to NATO. Ukranians should learn to live in peace wth all ther neghbors. It’s difficult when Ukranian gangsters are running ramant.

  9. It is so sad that Prof. Cohen is no longer here to comment on the current situation. Hardly anybody today is talking sense on this subject. The west “won” the Cold War, achieved detente with the Soviet Union/Russia, then threw it overboard for brinksmanship. It developed into actual war in Ukraine and there are many people wanting to add fuel (arms) to the fire. It’s reckless and dangerous.
