  1. joe schuler — This is naïve. You don’t know the precise circumstances of any of the incidents. A system which can cause the aircraft to dive into the ground unless the pilots recognize the problem and intervene in seconds, is a dangerous, incompetently designed system. Everybody, including Boeing, understands this now. It was only a matter of time before US carrier crashed in a similar way.

  2. Tejas — You should be more specific with this complaint. I hear a lot of pertinent questions being asked by people whose job it is to ask these questions. A system in which government officials did not have to testify before elected representatives would not be a good thing.

  4. teamhex — MCAS cannot be turned off. The stabilizer trim motor can be turned off, but then it must be adjusted by the manual trim controls. These are slow and difficult to move to get back to normal trim in the short time available.
