Tony Lee — If either sensor fails, they must both be considered untrustworthy and should not affect the flight controls. You need at least three sensors for fault-tolerance.

Jaakko Oksa — This was not a software error made by haste and carelessness. It is a design error. Poor design choices were deliberately made.
2
MrBestard — Depends on whether you consider the choice of engine to be a hardware design flaw.
1
Anders Turesson — Their disregard for fail-safe operation is mystifying. The fact of a sensor failing does not worry me, providing the designers understand and implement fail-safe operation.
1
Ecco Sabanovic — It is not aerodynamically “unstable.” Its aerodynamic behavior is different from its predecssor because of greater engine power and relocation, but that is not instability. The aircraft can be flown without MCAS, which is just an aid. The problem is that MCAS was not protected from faulty data, and it took authority away from the pilot flying.
1
Vuyo Netshivhambe — Boeing has been rethinking this design.
1
Ikadek Kariyawan — This isn’t Windows.
1
Daniel Le — The Concorde was shot down only because it was uneconomic.
1
Dale Bolen — If you got rid of all the automation, you wouldn’t have autopilot. Autopilot reduces pilot fatigue by taking over routine parts os the flight. Fatigued pilots are not able to perform as effectively as rested pilots. Does your car have cruise control? Do you use it?
