  2. In the terminology of information theory, the binary “digit” is a “binit.” The “bit” is the unit for measuring information. These are not quite the same thing. Of course, we in computer science always call our binits “bits” anyway.

  4.  @y2an — Newtonian physics isn’t obsolete, though. It still has applicability and is still studied. Russell and Whitehead sought to create a foundation for mathematics. They were creating the formalism, not new mathematics. Does anybody care about that today? Perhaps it should have been mentioned here, but I don’t think it matters much that it was left out.
