  1. Carville's remarks about not having an open primary could be applied to 2016. There were primaries, but there were no Democrats opposing Hillary Clinton (Sanders is not a Democrat). Clinton was anointed by the Democratic powers-that-be as the designated nominee, so the mainstream Democrats who might have wanted to run sat on the sidelines. Carville, known Clinton supporter, is one of the influential Democratic powers-that-be. I think he should be asking himself, privately, how he may have contributed to this fiasco.
