  30. This is the dumbest protest I know of. I think UCB should build a sturdy structure on this lot. Provid3 space for a plaque memorializing the significance of th3 site. I’ll bet most people opposing this building weten’t even alive at the time of the People’s Park protests (I was.). History is narrative. A vacant lot is not significant. History does not disappear when the site is repurposed.

  32. I live in Oakland, but I’m not going to carry. I just try to maintain situational awareness. I witnessed an auto breakin in which a woman’s backpack was taken. It takes only seconds to shatter a side window and snatch an object like that. Do not leave purses, backpacks, or computer bags in your car, unattended, ever! Not even for a few seconds. That applies anywhere, not just Oakland.
