  11. Not really. Oakland has been largely Democratic for decades, but things have gotten out of control only in the past few years. Former mayor Sheng Thao was part of the Problem, however. She fired the best police chief we have had in many years, and left the office vacant for months. Although nominally a Democrat, she actually represented herself rather than the people of Oakland. Now she is out of office and under federal inductment. We will be electing a new mayor soon.
