  2. I doubt anyone knew he was likely to be a murderer. He seemed to be a crank, but most cranks are harmless.

  3. I wonder why he left his previous job, and when. Professors normally get tenure somewhere, then stay until they retire or make a change to get a better position. It seems like this one had been unemployed for a time and couldn’t afford to retire. He was at the end of his rope, I suppose.
