  1. It is common for people to single out Boeing for criticism when something goes wrong, but there have been a couple of emergencies recently for A319s with hydraulic failures. These have received hardly any coverage. Any aircraft by any maker can have something go wrong that causes an emergency to be declared.

  2. Not true. The NTSB are independent and always have been. They do not have regulatory power, so you couldn’t get much for a bribe anyway. The FAA were pretty useless under former acting administrator Elwell, but they are much better today. The quick grounding of the MAX 9 exemplifies that.
