  1. The reporter on the right doesn’t seem to understand data recorder technology at all. Of course the recorder is damaged — it went through a plane crash! But the damaged parts are just the supporting electronics. The data are stored in the strongbox in the center, which is designed to survive the crash. Most likely, they will have no trouble recovering the data.
