Not a word about Chief Inspector Maigret, a role I thought he played perfectly.

He punched him because he had called him a liar and a coward to his face. The guy had it coming. Aldrin put his life on the line for his country more than once. Why should he let some punk stalker insult him with impunity? I’ve read that the punk tried to sue Aldrin but the judge laughed and threw it out.

It was an expensive program. It took about half a million people to carry out the Mercury/Gemini/Apollo missions. We collected a box of rocks, did a few science experiments, and left a few useful things on the Moon (and a lot of junk), but there was not enough value in keeping the program going.

“Unprovoked”? The agression may not be justified, but it was certainly provoked. How can these distinguished gentlemen be so clueless? If they don’t understand the causes, they cannot understand how to restore peace.

Oppose military aid to Ukraine. Allow humanitarian aid only. Urge NATO to abandon all thought of admitting Ukraine and Georgia to NATO. Recognize the legitimacy of the transfer of Crimea to Russia. etc.

@highgroundproductions8590 — Mars is just another barren rock, and a lot harder to get to.

In fact, one of the first pictures taken on the first mission to the moon, Apollo 8, is “Earthrise,” the most iconic photo from the Apollo program.

I love the way Carville dismisses Sanders. I hope he’s out of the picture in 2024. He is still around in 2020 trying to influence the platform. The Democrats would do better to kick him to the curb than let him do that. I hope Biden is tough enough to disavow any cockamamie ideas in the platform.

“Progressive” does not imply identity politics.
2
“insane”? I don’t think you know the meaning of the word. He is an elderly man, talking about his experiences as one of a select few of Apollo astronauts. I don’t hear anything bizarre.

invisibleAzN — Actually, that was the Southern Democratic Party and it was in the immediate aftermath of the Civil War. The original Klan was put out of business during reconstruction. By the time of the second Klan, the character of the parties had changed considerably. In my home state of Oregon, the Klan was trying to get established in the 1920s. The only newspaper to oppose the Klan openly was the Capital Journal, a Democratic paper, under editor George Putnam.

He just represents himself. I don’t know why you think he’s a drunk. He probably does drink whisky. So do I. So what?
1
Armstrong had the camera. He took a picture of both of them, as he is reflected in Aldrin’s sun shield.
1
We were sick enough of him to vote him out of office, to my relief.

White did say more than that. He Michelin were just trying to sell tyres, which was their area of expertise.
1
Jackie — Earl Long wasn’t really a “leftist.” He’s usually described as a “populist.” In any case, he was a dynamic individual. And Carville certainly is not a leftist.

All you have to do is get invited to a dinner at a restaurant by someone who is hosting it. When I hosted my groom's dinner, I had the restaurant print a subset of their menu without prices. Desktop publishing has made this very easy to do.

Space dust lands in the ocean continuously from meteors.

I would say that Zelensky also miscalculated. And NATO miscalculated. Do you want a way out, from a western perspective? Easy. NATO must agree that Ukraine (and Georgia) will never be members of NATO. NATO members must stop supplying arms to Ukraine. Just tell Ukraine they will have to get along with all their neighbors, because NATO will not fight their battles. And recognize the legitimacy of Russian annexation of Crimea.

They are. Just go up there and have a look for yourself.

Jackie — That hasn’t been true since 1970 or earlier. The Southern Democrats became Dixiecrats, then Republicans. The blacks were Republicans in the post-Civil War era but today are mostly Democrats. People who try to explain today’s politics in terms of the parties of 1860 are just displaying their ignorance.
1
Jackie — Not in his lifetime, they weren’t. As Mr. Carville stated in this talk, Governor Earl Long, a Democrat, was progressive on race, and that influenced him. Most of the progress on race issues came from Democrats: Eleanor Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Lyndon Johnson, and so on. Republicans are still pretending to be the “Party of Lincoln.” Lincoln wouldn’t recognize them.

Freedom to block traffic? Is that a fundamental freedom in Canada?

Moon landing deniers are not amusing. They are pathetic ignorami.
1
Frisbieinstein — Not even close.
1
Trevison Clark — He isn’t relying on them. Carville knows very well how the electoral system works. Popular votes are an indicator. You can’t win electoral votes without popular votes. You have to know where the popular votes are close in order to identify the swing states.

I think the remark Quayle made about “Latin” was a deliberate joke.
1
Mike Goodman — In the first place, Carville is not a “leftist.” In the second place, anyone would be happy to be invited to speak at The Oxford Union. He also speaks at many places in the United States because he’s an interesting guy with a lot of inside information on American politics.
1
Mike Goodman — Carville is not a leftist. He is a mainstream Democratic operative.
1
reinaldo rivera — Politics ain’t wrasslin’.
1
Blessedone333AZ — I guess you think they should submit their list of proposed speakers to you for approval. Who are you to decide whom the Oxford Union may invite?
