  2. Gelato was introduced in the United States fairly recently. I first encountered it in the 1980s. Now, it can be found many places, but American ice cream predominates, of course. The thing to know about American ice cream is that there are different quality grades: economy, premium, and super premium. Those grades are mainly about density.

  3. robert robert — Some people whine about the additives, but they are minor ingredients which just help get the right texture, for the most part. They do not make it “not real ice cream.”
