  6. You will all remember that the Republicans impeached President Clinton, for largely political reasons in my opinion. Not only did they not get the 2/3 they needed to convict in the Senate, they didn’t even get a majority. Both major parties (and all minor parties, for that matter) have double standards when politics is involved. To her credit, Pelosi has resisted calls for impeachment for some time. This latest stunt from Trump has pushed her over the line, but it’s just an investigation. It may not result in articles of impeachment, but if it motivates the President to step back a bit, that will be a worthwhile.

  7. Not likely. Montana is a long way to go for most people. Nobody would drive so far for a relative minor (and local) issue. But there are 75,000 people just in Missoula. Why would you think they couldn’t get a crowd of a few hundred for this? If they were inclined to travel for it, why wouldn’t they go to Helena?

  48. This was a great speech — one of Obama’s best — except for the part about “peaceful demonstrators.” They were not peaceful. They were rioters and arsonists who, in fact, attacked and damaged federal property. There may have been some peaceful demonstrators present, but peaceful people have no proper business remaining when their demonstration becomes an unpeaceful, unlawful assembly. Linking these events with those of John Lewis’ era does him no credit. The rioters in Portland and Seattle are not in Lewis’ league and they don’t belong on the same platform with him.
