  3. People complain about late night getting too political. It used to be that political jokes were even-handed and fairly light. Carson exemplified this approach. But the times were different then. We had responsible people on both sides of the aisle, mostly, who made the occasional gaffe. The situation today is much different. We have a fascist in the White House who has been attacking our democratic institutions and is trying to brazenly steal the election, after having been rejected by the people by a solid margin. One does not deal with a fascist in an even-handed way. The Republic must be preserved. The correct way for any humourist to deal with a fascist is with ridicule, constant and unrelenting. I’m hopeful that things will return to normal when the Biden administration takes office.
