  1. People join an association because they want to buy a property which is part of an association. They want the association to be responsible for common property, because it is more convenient. In some cases, an association is unavoidable. I live in a condominium which consists of just one building with several apartments and common areas. The entire structure of the building is common area. It is not practical to maintain a commonly owned building without an association. Who pays to fix the elevator when it needs service if there is no association. How do you paint the building without an association. The problem is to try to get the common property maintained without the board making a lot of stupid rules you are supposed to follow. When the association consists of separate residences with just some common roads and other facilities, there is less need for an association, but there can still be some need. If you have a private road, how do you maintain it without an association?
