It is unlikely many will profit. The building may not have been insured at full replacement value. If the association decided to sell the land and dissolve, there might not be enough to pay off the mortgages. The lenders could attach liens to the property, making it harder to sell. Estates of renters who were not members of the association could sue, and there might not be enough liability insurance for full coverage. Then, of course, many owners are deceased. Perhaps they will declare bankruptcy and take whatever the court gives them.
