If you are worried about whether the “world” is backing you, you have already given up on sovereignty, which is the main objective. When the United States of America decided we wanted sovereignty, we had no allies. Then France became our first ally (and a crucial one). The outcome was in doubt for a long time, but we perservered because the principle of sovereignty was worth fighting for. Now, Americans take sovereignty for granted. Early in WWII, Britain stood alone when the outcome was in doubt because the alternative of being subjucated by fascists was unthinkable. Britain perservered and in time was joined by enough allies to defeat the fascists and ensure the sovereignty of the allied states. Today, we see mainland Europe trying to incorporate the United Kingdom into its superstate and some weak-kneed Britons are wringing their hands wondering what “the world” will think if they decide they would rather get their sovereign status back. It’s a pathetic spectacle. My view is that the English-speaking peoples should stick together as an alliance of sovereign states. We should try to have good relations with most of the world, but our sovereignty is not subject to being revoked by world opinion.
