  1. A current will flow wherever there is a potential difference. As he said, the path through ground is high resistance, so current will be low compared to through the neutral.

  5. A ground does make it less likely to be electrocuted. If a hot wire in an appliance touched the metal enclosure, it would be come hot without the ground wire, and would give you a shock. If the enclosure has a ground wire going back to the panel, the short will trip the breaker.
