I think that’s a good idea, but Boeing should pay for them.

I think they were all missing entirely.

@donmab — The plug fills a doorway designed for an emergency exit door, so uses the same retention mechanism, slightly modified. The emergency exit door is designed the way it is because it must be completely secure in flight, yet be able to be quickly opened by a passenger in case emergency evacuation is necessary.

The bolts are not under high load, so should not fail at all. One bolt should keep the plug door in place. Most likely, there were no bolts in this door, in my opinion.

Unsafe aircraft are not good for dividends.

The plug fits a doorway designed for an emergency exit door, so uses the same scheme to hold it in place, but modified slightly to suit the situation.

Alaska Airlines is a much better company since that crash. The question now should be who fill fix Boeing after the MAX crashes. I don’t have confidence in Calhoun. He was on the Boeing board at the time, and stood behind Muilenburg until it was obvious he couldn’t any longer, so he contributed to the problem.

Airbus has had multiple emergency landings in the past year, but they don’t get much coverage. Two were for hydraulic failure.

Muilenburg was a Boeing lifer, and an engineer.

A pilot knows that if the plane crashes, he (or she) goes with it. A mechanic on an assembly line does not have such an intimate connection to the product. It seems to me that any critical component should be checked by another party.

The MCAS has been fixed.

It’s an illusion, though. I don’t think having two airliners crash with no survivors is cutting costs. Having your bread and butter product grounded for more than a year is not cost cutting.

If that were done, there would probably be retaliation. It is better if we all try to get along. We all should want Boeing to clean up their act.

The plug is sturdy, provided all the parts are present and properly installed.

@konraddapper7764 — These particular bolts are used only to keep these plugs in place. The mandatory inspection is for all the aircraft that have these plugs.

You don’t understand the mechanism.
1
Yes, but often there is a preliminary report.

Former CEO (and Chairman) Muilenburg was an engineer, and he really messed up.
