No, certain reciprocating engines have an inherent imbalance. A balance shaft which compensates is a success.

What part?

I like straight sixes, but fours are used because they are significantly shorter. The length of a straight six is the reason we have so many V6 engines.

The current four cylinder truck engine at the time this was designed was the 2.5l LCV (I have one). It probably wasn't designed to take a turbo. Anyway, they wanted an engine that would allow them to drop the V6 and diesel options. They decided that this was the way to do it. I can't argue against that, but I'm happy with my LCV.

The Cadillac was just the test vehicle. This engine is for the 3rd gen Colorado/Canyon.

This engine may be in the 3rd-generation Canyon/Colorado, due in 2023.

It is. It is the only engine for the 2023 Colorado/Canyon. I expect they wanted to get it on the road for awhile before committing to use it without other engine options in the medium trucks.

It's a larger four. It replaces the 2.5l.

My 2nd gen Colorado has the predecessor to this engine, a naturally aspirated four. It's fine. If the L3B is reliable, it will be fine.

I like me LCV. What, exactly, do you think is wrong with it?
1
That must be the 1st-gen Colorado. The 2nd gen has the LCV 2.5 I4 and the 3rd gen has only the L3B.
1
When the engine overheats you get an alert. It is best to shut the vehicle down when that happens.

I have the 2nd gen Colorado with the 2.5. It's fine. The 3rd gen Colorado only gets the 2.7. It should be fine.

Less weight helps fuel economy.

Wrightspeed turbine-electric.
