I have 600 mile range in my pickup.

@MobiAussie — I agree that diesel-electric is worth a look. Wrightspeed developed a diesel turbine-electric system, but I don’t know if they have put it highway trucks yet. Their initial application was garbage trucks, because of the frequent stops and starts.

Why would he use Metric-only? Jason, being an actual engineer, is a practical man who knows that units are arbitrary and equivalent. He should use whatever units are convenient for his purpose. Since Tesla is a US-based company, and the truck will be compared to US-made trucks, US units are probably more convenient for comparison. Anyone who wants a Metric unit can convert easily enough. For example, truck weight limits in the US are given in lbs. For kg, just multiply by .4536.

@ericbabich — Provided the charging equipment is available.

Companies with fixed routes and loads might use it, if the profile is a good fit.

It doesn’t cause any pain for Jason, or for me. He uses pounds because US truck weight regulations are in pounds. Conversion to kg is easily done.

I don’t think so. It might work in some particular applications for which the trip is within range and charging capability is onsite where the truck is parked.
