  1. Unix did not make computers easier to use. Unix (and C) made the operating system easier to write and to port to different computers. Unix had its own problems, like most operating systems. Computers became easier to use when the operating system, whatever it was, became hidden behind a graphic user interface.

That the name appears in some general dictionaries is an indication of the loose standards of today’s dictionary editors rather than the lasting influence of Unix. Its influence may be lasting, but I still think it belongs only in specialized reference books. There are countless proper names of influential things which could be put in general dictionaries if you wanted to get into that practice.
