If she hasn’t asked to represent herself, I don’t think they can require her to. I expect the court will refuse to let another attorney off the case without a better reason than this one had. They need one lawyer with a thick skin and then they just proceed with the trial whether she likes it or not.

No. She should stick with Hobson, stop writing letters, and take his advice.

Four, substantively.
2
Hobson is the fourth. I predict he will get the case to trial.
2
He does. Did you listen to the hearing?
2
Can’t do that. A trial by jury is a right.

@glamdolly30 — Note that Boone has had only one attorney at public expense, Bankowitz. She had one that she obtained who was working for her pro bono, with other expenses paid by the public. He worked on her case for more than two years. The other four (actually three, because the public defender is counted twice) left the case without doing anything for her, because of conflicts of interest. The two who did work for her did withdraw, though, for irreconcilable differences. I expect the judge will require Hobson to stay on the case and bring it to trial, unless he has a very good reason to withdraw.
2
Most of them cost next to nothing. One never got started and three others withdrew promptly for conflict of interest. There have been only two attornies working the case, so far.
2
She cannot be required to represent herself. If she chose to, the court would let her.

I think he is doing a good job. I also don’t think you have seen the “six” lawyers. Only two lawyers have actually worked on the case before today. The others were released shortly after being appointed due to conflict of interest.
1
It won’t go on indefinitely.
1
If Hobson is able to take the case, he will be the third attorney. The others were unable to represent Boone due to conflict of interest. Correction: Probably the fourth. One attorney worked with her for a month or two who I wasn’t counting.

Crime is a waste of public resources, but due process is essential. This is one case out of thousands every year in Florida. It is a small part of the cost of the criminal justice system.
1
I would never laugh at a person with an ambulatory disability.
1
I predict he will bring the case to trial, even if Boone has complaints. The judge will not indulge her.
1
As long as she is locked up, they don’t have to be in a hurry. She cannot complain about delays of her own making.
1
She will be tried.
1
Has she asked to represent herself? If not, she gets an attorney. I don’t expect the next one will get off the case so easily.
1
@Donna-d4l — Two attornies have withdrawn because they couldn’t work with her, and only one was a court-appointed attorney. Hobson will be her third attorney, and the judge warned that he will be looking into any similar problems.
1
The court has not given her seven attorneys. The two who had conflicts of interest don’t count. They never worked on the case. One of those, the Public Defender, is counted twice, so Hobson is only the fourth, substantively. Of those four, the first was not appointed by the court.
1
The defendant is represented by counsel, whether she likes it or not. There are times when a judge needs to hear from a defendant directly, but this wasn’t one of them. As soon as the judge released the attorney, the hearing was over except for recording what was decided for the record. If Boone wants to speak to the judge, she can go pro se. That would be entertaining, but it wouldn’t help her.
1
What are the individual reasons the other attornies were taken off the case?
1
Her attornies have all been private attornies. All but the first were court-appointed, though. The Public Defender never worked on the case, due to conflict of interest.
1
He was drunk. Probably asleep or at least unable to resist.
