  1. He testified because the prosecution had a strong circumstantial case. He took the stand as a last resort, hoping to talk his way out of it. The same situation happened in the trial of Nancy Brophy. In both cases, the prosecutor let the defendant talk under cross. In both cases it didn’t help.
