  1. Every actor has to learn things now and then to play a role. Baldwin has handled firearms in several roles. He is surely aware of firearm safety protocols on movie sets. Here, as a producer, he didn’t bother to observe them, and no one was going to tell him he had to.

Second, armorers in this business have described how they demonstrate the safety of a firearm in the process of handing it over to another person.

  3. I agree. Since her father is a respected armorer, he could have been mentoring her for years and, if she were serious about doing it, she certainly could have learned to do the job by age 24. It doesn’t seem like it worked out that way, but not just because of her age or sex.

  4. Here’s a situation you haven’t addressed. Let’s suppose Baldwin is charged with involuntary manslaughter. Suppose as part of his defense he asserts that he was untrained in the use of firearms and that there was no safety training for this film or supervision of his handling of the revolver at the time of the shooting. Can the prosecution bring in an armorer from a previous Baldwin film to testify that he instructed Baldwin never to point the gun toward people at any time during rehearsal for a scene?

  22. Everyone who contributed to the tragedy has some level of culpability. How much remains to be determined. We don’t pay someone to relieve us of our legal responsibilities. The law doesn’t care about the job descriptions of the various contributors.
