  2. Columbia had ejection seats for the first test flights when there were only two persons aboard. When they went to a full crew, an escape system was not feasible. The crew could not have been saved by an ejection system in either disaster. It would have easier just to prevent both disasters by responding to the warning signs in a timely manner.
