  4. Native2458 — Sure, because the universe is truly vast, but nearly all of the material universe is in galaxies far removed from our own in both space and time. The proposition is not interesting because it is untestable. The interesting questions are whether there is extraterrestrial life in our own galaxy, and how rare it is.

  6. Robert Matheus — That’s an idealistic way of looking at it, though. The point of evolution is survival. The reality is that people (and other animals) have survived and advanced by forming social units and protecting the unit. First family, then tribe and eventually nation. Over time, perhaps humankind will become one group, but we are a long way from that still. In the meantime, we still must try to survive.
