It should be back this year. They have had more than enough time to fix the problem. When it is cleared to fly, there will not be a one-year training period. There will be a few weeks between clearing it for service and putting it into service.

jack phillips — It is the people who say they would refuse to fly on it who are not in their right mind. If your car were recalled, would you fix it or scrap it? Suppose it were one of those GM models with a defective ignition switch which led to several crashes and some deaths. Do you think people who owned one, upon receiving the recall notice, decide to take them to the scrapyard instead? They did not. And how about the airbag recall which affected many thousands of automobiles of various makes. Were all those cars scrapped? They were not. They were fixed. The airline I fly on most often has the 737 Max on order. I’ll fly on it with no worries whatsoever. The defect was horrible, to be sure, but it has been fixed. Smart would have been refusing to fly on the Max after the Lion Air crash but before it was grounded. Refusing to fly on it after it has been fixed isn’t smart, it’s irrational fear.
