  1. David Jacobson — The max is not unstable, it just needs more trim in certain situations to compensate for the more powerful engines. All airliners use horizontal stabilizer trim.

  2. Rampy — The cables are just backup so (for example) the horizontal elevator trim can be operated manually when the electric motor is cut out. The flight control actuators are mostly hydraulic.
