The following quote is from Watson and Crick’s first paper in Nature, April 1953: “We have also been stimulated by a knowledge of the general nature of the unpublished experimental results and ideas of Dr. M. H. F. Wilkins, Dr. R. E. Franklin and their co-workers at King’s College, London.”

Franklin isn’t unsung, though. Her role is well-known to anyone interested in the subject.

Actually, Franklin’s contribution is fairly well known to anyone who is interested in the history of science.

Franklin did not discover the structure of DNA. She produced data which helped Crick and Watson solve the structure.
