  9. I just have one small quibble. You seem to conflate the internet and the World Wide Web. Internet development began in the 1960s. The WWW was the invention (along with the GUI and hypertext) that made the internet accessible to everybody.

  13. Do you mean Berners-Lee? A lot of people have heard of him. He did invent the World Wide Web. Dr. Collier errs in conflating that with the Internet, however, to which several people contributed. Perhaps that is because she isn't old enough to have used the Internet before the Web.

  14. I love the wrapup! I don’t care about a theory of everything. I’ve wondered for a long time why anybody needs to tie gravity to the atomic level forces, because it seems irrelevant at that scale. Maybe the black hole theorists need it, but I don’t much care about black holes, either. Mainly, I wonder why anybody who is not an actual physicist thinks he can critique the physics profession. We, who know a little physics and are interested in it, are mere observers. The physics profession, like any profession, has its own agenda. It does not include providing laymen with results they can understand and be entertained by. When something does come along that makes good reading for a (science-trained) general audience, it’s good. Otherwise, I’ll read something else. It’s fine.
