Roger Russell — These things are usually civil matters. The FBI have been looking into Boeing. It will be up to them to decide if there were criminal acts. You don’t charge someone with a crime just because you think he deserves it.

George Wigley — This is mostly right. Boeing knew shortly after the Lion Air crash, when they got the data from the FDR, that that they had a problem in the aircraft. Had they been the leader in grounding the model until the defct was characterized and corrected, they would have come through this fairly easily. This affair will probably become a textbook example of how to mismanage a crisis.

This is completely wrong. It is myth promoted by people who know nothing about aircraft design and which has been refuted by airline pilots who have commented on the problem.
