None of this matters to me. I love my 2016 Colorado. I never considered a Tacoma or Frontier, and the Ridgeline isn’t a proper truck.

The 3rd gen doesn’t interest me. I bought my 2016 Colorado thinking it might be my last chance to buy a new pickup with a manual transmission. It seems I was right. I don’t like turbochargers either. I have the naturally aspirated 4-cyl gas engine and the wonderful Eaton manual 6-speed transmission, and that pairing is exactly right for my purpose. That 2.7 l engine (L3B) will have cylinder deactivation and stop/start technology for better fuel economy. I’ve driven a Chevy with the latter and I don’t like it. It may be possible to deselect it.

So it is a common ball hitch? I think that might have contributed to the problem because of limited articulation in the vertical plane.

I’ll probably be gone by 2035. Just keep my 2nd gen Colorado running until then, please.

I can’t see comparing them. The GMC has twice the payload. They aren’t close to being in the same category.

I don’t think so. There will always be a margin of safety in any structure. An engineer might strive for a small margin, but never a zero margin.

My Colorado is a Barra-mobile, and it’s a fine truck. Barra is an engineer and has spent her entire career at GM. She saved GM after the infamous ignition switch problem, which happened when males were in charge. She had nothing to do with creating that problem, but she cleaned house when she was put in charge. Great job.

Another solution is to not overload your truck and slow down.

What inline six?

Pickups are expensive because a lot of buyers want them loaded up with creature comforts and gadgets. Look how many crew cab configurations are sold thes days. That’s because people are using them as family cars.

You can keep your luxury RAM interior. I like my Chevy work truck interior. It’s a truck, not a luxury limousine. I suspect people who want all the frills are using their pickups as family cars.

Now GM is using aluminum for hoods.

The Colorado/Canyon show up here because of complaints from owners about the automatic transmission. I have a Colorado with a manual transmission and couldn’t be happier with it. Infotainment complaints mean nothing to me. My work truck has a basic AM/FM radio.

That’s not what the symbol means. It means winter-rated.

Crumple zones save lives. There is no question about that. My “real world” is driving my Colorado pickup on the highway and on city streets, at legal speeds. I don’t care what happens to a Colorado that is subjected to unusual stresses in an off-road environment. If that’s your “real world,” you have to understand the stresses and the limitations of your vehicle.

Newer trucks are designed to protect the passenger compartment in a crash. The energy goes into the crumple zones at either end.

I totally agree.

Static weight is not the whole picture. Momentum is mass times velocity. At higher speeds, you can get greater force from momentum than from gravity.
