  1. The straight six is a good design for an engine. If US trucks with a six have enough power and torque to do their job, then the six is a better configuration for ease of maintenance.

  3. Slide rules are efficient. When high precision was needed, electromechanical or electronic calculators were used. Calculators have existed for a long time.

  4. I’m from Oregon. I’ve never liked the Portland Building or Postmodernism generally. The essence of architecture is the space within and around the structure. It seems to me this building simply strives to draw attention to itself visually, by its use of patterns and color, rather than by its effective use of space. This is reinforced by hearing that changes to its appearance have compromised its status as a historic building. In this video I have heard nothing about how well the building works for its intended function. Do the people who work there like it? Do citizens having business there like it? I have only been in the lobby. I can think of many public buildings I have been in which were more welcoming, even inspirational. I do think it was worth renovation, however. It was built, and if it is sound structurally, and usable even if not inspirational, then it ought to be maintained.
