I actually like Yasuke, but I do find it ironic that so many of the people who cheer having Yasuke as the protagonist of the new Assassin's Creed game were generally horrified by having Tom Cruise as the protagonist of the Last Samurai. Yasuke was a real person and Cruise's Algren was based on Jules Brunet who was also a real person. If they had set an Assassin's Creed game in the 14th century Empire of Mali (which they absolutely should do) and based the protagonist on a historical white person who was living in the country, there would have been hell to pay. I think there would have been less controversy if they had announced Yasuke as a major character in the story and even playable in a chapter or two, but not suggested that the Asian Assassin plays second fiddle to a non-Asian in the Asian Assassin's Creed game.
