"Slave" is a slur against Slavic people, since it was created to conflate the two on account of the fact that Slavic people were historically unlikely to have organized military protection from slave traders. Also, as an "Oriental" who grew up in a mostly "Oriental" community where everybody regularly used the word without a second though, I was shocked to discover that emotional hypochondriacs in cosmopolitan places like California had decided the word was verboten. My father and his parents faced actual and open racism and discrimination, they would have smacked me upside the head if I complained about the nothingburger microaggressions that people are offended by today. In the same way that a person who thinks everything is a divine appointment from god finds the will of god in everything, the person who thinks everything is systemic racism finds racism in everything. All else being equal, you can guess which of the two is perpetually miserable.
