  1. I once played a character who was kinda like myself in 2nd Ed and I (unsurprisingly) took every attack on my character personally. Then I passed my 12th birthday and realized it was stupid to play myself and have spent the rest of my life putting layers or abstraction between myself and my character by playing characters who were unlike me (nonhuman, older, younger, female, evil, cheerful, stupid, emotionless, parents, criminals, etc.) but had one or two aspects of their personality that I could resonate with. The whole purpose of a roleplaying game is to take on the role of somebody who isn't you and inhabit their world for a time.
