  1. A faster and more self-reliant Marine Corps designed to hit big Chinese military assets while having fewer large targets to hit back sounds like it might be a smart gamble. If nothing else, one of America's biggest advantages against rogue states is the fact that our experienced and well-trained noncoms on the ground can make bigger tactical decisions without running them back to the capital, and this seems to enhance the long range destructive power the Marines have on hand. Since we're not like Imperial Japan, where the branches were bitter political rivals trying to undercut each other for personal power, having the Marines focus on doing what they do best better and coordinating with the other branches for their specialties seems like a good way to focus on America's strengths over micromanaging and backbiting dictatorships. As slow as the American Military Establishment is to turn around, the People's Liberation Army has to be vastly more ponderous.
