Trump is going to want Ukraine to sign on to a peace agreement without recovering all the territory they have lost to the cowardice of prior US administrations (Bush, Obama, and Biden) but that does not mean that Ukraine will end up in a worse position than they will if the next US president continues to drip feed financial and material support while handcuffing Kyiv strategically. Both Zelenskyy and Putin have backed themselves into a corner and cannot end the war militarily or diplomatically unless the US is willing to make a credible threat of force to end the stalemate. Putin thinking Trump is as crazy as Visual Politik does may be the only thing that that can end the war without millions of additional casualties on both sides. The total collapse of Russia is probably not on the table and if it were, there is a good chance it just leads to more Russian nuclear weapons in the hands of rogue nations. A weakened Russia that can still fend off a starving China may the least problematic outcome for global stability.
